Youths in Maiduguri arrests a top Boko Haram member

Reports in Daily Trust indicate that youths in Maiduguri have arrested a top Boko Haram member. The terrorist was seen and recognised by a young man who fled his home in Gwoza axis of Borno State where insurgents have ravaged many communities during the past four weeks.
According to the Daily Trust report, after sensing that he would be lynched, the suspect vowed to provide useful information that would lead to the arrest of other sect members, who he says have infiltrated Maiduguri.
It was gathered that nemesis caught up with the suspect when he was recognized near the Timber Shed along Baga Road, Maiduguri by an Internally Displaced Person who immediately identified him as the gunman who killed his brother. “The suspect was about entering the Timber Shed with a polythene bag in his hand when the IDP raised alarm and sought our assistance,” a youth vigilante who participated in the arrest said.

“When we teamed up against him, the suspect confessed that he is a Boko Haram member. He also admitted killing the brother of the whistle-blower and many others. And when he realized that he may not survive interrogations, he promised to assist in arresting some of his colleagues, whom he said are at Kasuwan Gwoza area in Maiduguri. We believed him and handed him over to soldiers,” the vigilante youth said.
The coming of youth vigilantes, also known as Civilian JTF, who are working closely with security operatives, is making it difficult for members of the Boko Haram to move freely in Maiduguri metropolis, according to Daily Trust. Over 6,000 people have fled their homes and taken refuge in Maiduguri as a result of renewed attacks by Boko Haram on villages around Konduga, Bama and Gwoza local government areas of the state.
