Creative Directors of D&G, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been found guilty of tax evasion to the tune of $1.3bn. The verdict was announced this afternoon after hours of consideration by a three-judge panel who decided to uphold last June's guilty verdict that saw the designers both sentenced to 20-months in prison for allegedly committing tax evasion, Vogue UK reports. The alleged crime is said to have been a result of the sale of their Dolce & Gabbana and D&G brands to the Luxembourg-based holding company Gado Srl in 2004. Dolce & Gabbana have always denied the charges and promptly appealed last year's decision with their legal representative. But the appeal has been denied and both men are now facing prison time

33 year old Lawal Olaniyi Babafemi (pictured above) yesterday Tuesday April 29th pleaded guilty to terror charges in a US court. The Nigerian citizen is accused of providing material support to an al Qaeda affiliate, and participating in its media and recruitment campaigns, Reuters reports. US prosecutors said that, from January 2010 to August 2011, Babafemi left Nigeria to Yemen twice to meet with some leaders of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, known as AQAP. "The defendant traveled to Yemen to put himself at the disposal of a violent terrorist organization that has repeatedly demonstrated its determination to inflict bodily and economic harm on the US and its citizens," A U.S. Attorney said in a statement. Ahmed Gulak has his hand in a secret pie in the British Virgin Island President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, with immediate effect, presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati, has said. No reason was given for the removal of Mr. Gulak, a man well known for complementing another presidential aide, Doyin Okupe, in launching verbal attacks on critics and opponents of President Jonathan. However, Mr. Abati, in a statement posted via his twitter handle @abati1990, quoted President Jonathan as thanking Mr. Gulak for his services to the present administration and wishing him success in his future endeavors”.

  Most of the 234 Borno schoolgirls in Boko Haram captivity, according to a report on DailyTrust, have allegedly been ferried abroad to Chad and Cameroon after they were married off to sect members on N2,000 bride price each. The female students were taken from their hostels at the Government Girls Secondary School Chibok on the night of April 14. About 40 had escaped in the days after the incident, but parents and school authorities said at least 234 of them were yet to be found. Dr. Pogu Chibok, who is the leader of the Chibok Elders Forum, told Daily Trust yesterday that latest information available to them indicates that most of the girls have been taken to the neighboring Cameroon and Chad by their captors.

F oremost producer, writer, director and a leading player in the Nigerian motion picture industry, Amaka Igwe has passed on. She died last night April 28th in Enugu after an asthma attack. Mrs Igwe had gone to Enugu in company of her husband for pre-production preparations for a new Igbo soap when the sad incident occurred. She suffered an asthma attack and was immediately rushed to the hospital after initial intervention had failed but sadly died before getting there.  Mrs Igwe is survived by her husband of 21 years Charles Igwe, three children, an aged mother. hmm wonders they say never cease......Greek Orthodox church officials have baptised a dolphin following its remarkable recovery after being found close to death on a beach.The Dolphin was named  Anastasis(Resurrection) It was rescued by small group of volunteers from the city after they found it helpless on the coast of Damnoni beach after apparently being separated from the rest of its family. One of the rescuers spent a night trying to help to keep the dolphin afloat so that it could breathe .When news of the rescue and recovery was broadcast on local television in the area, the local church decided to baptise the dolphin and give it a name It was last seen swimming strongly out to sea and locals hope it will either be reunited with its family or find another family.

Nigeria’s embattled petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has secured a court injunction ordering the House of Representatives to discontinue an ongoing investigation of how the minister allegedly squandered more than N10billion of public funds leasing private jets for two years. A federal court in Abuja restrained the House, its committees or representatives from summoning Mrs. Alison-Madueke or requesting that she produce papers, documents or give evidence relating to the jet spending. The presiding judge, A. R. Mohammed, also barred the lawmakers from ordering the minister’s arrest for failing to appear before the House Committee on Public Accounts, which is probing the allegation. Mrs. Alison-Madueke is accused of spending billions of naira for the services of private jets she deployed for mostly personal trips. State oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, supervised by the minister, has absolved the minister of wrongdoing.

Governor Godswill Akpabio has described as false, speculations in the mass media that Akwa Ibom State Government is owing N400 billion. Mr. Igbinedion plundered Edo State treasury for the eight years he was governor. He escaped jail after he reached a controversial plea bargain agreement with the Farida Waziri-led Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which dropped all but one of the 191 charges of corruption and money laundering against him.

Vice President of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo, lost his immediate junior brother Captain Yusuf Sabo Sambo, on Sunday in a ghastly motor accident that occurred on Bill Clinton drive, Airport Road Abuja. Capt. Yusuf Sabo Sambo, died early morning on Sunday April 27th 2014 in a ghastly car accident on Bill Clinton Drive Abuja. His car, a BMW X6 collided with a tree and burst into flames. The deceased was reported to be on his way to the airport to catch a flight when the motor vehicle he was in, crashed into a tree and went up in flames. Capt. Sambo was a pilot who worked with the Presidential Air Fleet and Nigerian Airways, before he retired. He was 58 years old, and is survived by 10 brothers and sisters, his wife, and three daughters. He has been buried at Apo cemetary, Abuja according to Islamic rites. Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones.
