On the recently concluded democracy day celebration in Abuja, Minister Haruna was quoted to have saidthat President Jonathan was offering amnesty to the boko haram sect as a means of peaceful resolution of the current security callrnge in the country. “President Goodluck Jonathan has declared amnesty for members of the Boko Haram sect. “Series of integration programmes have been lined up for the members of the sect who would surrender their arms and embrace peace.

  A  chinese  four-year-old child has left his father stranded after he scribbled all over his dad's passport when the two were on a trip to South Korea. The child used the passport as a coloring book and colored into his father’s eyes, and added whiskers and a beard to his featueres. Now,the father who was left stranded posted the photo on Chinese networking site,weibo, begging for help. The trip's organizers and authorities at the Chinese embassy, helped the father get the necessary paperwork done so that he can obtain a new passport. .   The Sudanese woman sentenced to death for marrying a Christian will be freed.27 year old Meriam Ibrahim, who gave birth in prison this week  is set to be released in a few days from now.The good news was announced to the BBC by Abdullahi Alazreg, an under-secretary at the foreign ministry. Mrs Ibrahim was jailed last year September and earlier this month was sentenced to death in addition to 100 lashes of the cane for marrying Daniel Wani, a Christian Sudanese man with U.S. citizenship who lives in New Hampshire. I guess the international pressure has finally paid off. Soooo happy for her.

The mother-in-law of Bayelsa State speaker, Madam Ogboro Dark was yesterday kidnapped by unknown gunmen who stormed her community in the state around 2.00am.The gunmen shot sporadically as they made their way into her home and abducted her. According to few villagers who witnessed the scene, the armed men entered the community through the waterside in three boats and were fast to leave as soon as they bundled the woman. The funeral service for ex-Lagos State governor, Sir Michael Otedola was held today at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Epe. After the service, he was laid to rest at his residence. His family, friends, and some dignitaries including President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola ; former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo ;   Aliko Dangote , and many others, The Nation reports. In a tribute to Otedola, Jonathan expressed that the ex-governor had served Lagos and Nigeria in an outstanding way. “He has left his marks on the sands of time, even though he ruled Lagos State for just 23 months but was able to leave an indelible mark which has been tremendous in the development of the state and Nigeria,” he said. Otedola died earlier this month at age 87 due to a stroke related ailment .

Emir of Gwoza According to reports from daily post,, the Islamic Militants, Boko Haram who were earlier said to have abducted two Borno rulers have killed the Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Idrisa Timta while the Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ismaila Mamza is said to be in their custody. It was earlier said that the two traditional rulers were seized at gun point by the Insurgents at about 10 am on Friday, along Garkida, Hawul road where a report said, there was ongoing battle between the insurgents and the Nigerian military. The two rulers were said to be on their way to Gombe to commiserates with the families of the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, who died on Tuesday evening at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London where he was said to have undergone operation for cancer. The presidential fact-finding committee on the abduction of over 250 female students from their hostel at Government Secondary School Chibok on April 14, finally visited the town yesterday, a week after suspending the trip. The trip was the first by senior civilian officials since the abduction seven weeks ago. The chairman of the presidential committee, Ibrahim Sabo, who led a three man entourage to Chibok Thursday, said the panel was in the town to sympathise with the parents and to assure them that even though his team was received amidst wailing by some of mothers of the abducted girls, the parents will rejoice soon.“I am sure we will be here rejoicing with you when the girls regain their freedom,” he said. A court in Ecuador has ruled that former president Jamil   Mahuad, will serve a 12-year jail sentence for embezzlement. The ruling comes two days after a warrant for his arrest was issued by Interpol. He has been sentenced in absentia. He was accused of commanding banks to close for many days and freezing the accounts of ordinary citizens to protect the interests of bankers affiliated with him, BBC   reports.  The incident occurred in March 1999 during a critical economic crisis. At the time, Ecuador was struggling with a devalued currency, extremely high inflation, and paltry prices for oil, its primary export. In this pic, Meriam carries her new born baby girl Maya, who was born this week in prison. Her legs were reportedly chained as she gave birth in prison. the 27 year old has been in prison for eight months now and is awaiting execution for doing nothing but marrying a Christian man. Right is Meriam's husband, Daniel Wani, with the new baby. Despite just given birth, it's being reported that Meriam will be given the 100 lashes that are part of her sentence in 2weeks' time unless she wins her appeal. Meriam has refused to renounce Christianity and Sudanese authorities are bent on the barbaric punishment despite mounting international outrage.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Thursday, reacted to the news that he met with persons believed to be close to members of the Boko Haram sect, stating that he would not do so without the knowledge of the Presidency. The extremist Boko Haram sect has kidnapped two first class traditional rulers in Borno state – the Emir of Uba, Ismaila Mamza and the Emir of Gwoza, Idrisa Timta, security officials aware of the incidence have told PREMIUM TIMES. The two emirs were seized by gun-wielding insurgents at 10a.m Friday near Shaffa while they were travelling to Gombe to attend the funeral of the Emir of Gombe, Shehu Abubakar, who died on  Tuesday evening at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, where he was undergoing treatment for cancer. The two abducted emirs were elevated to First Class traditional ruler status only in January. The Borno state government is yet to issue an official statement on the abduction.
