UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA STUDENTS PROTEST FOR LACK OF WATER AND POWER

Students of the University of Abuja on Monday protested the lack power and water supply to the permanent campus site of the university. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that more than 1,000 students gathered on the campus about 8am on Monday and barricaded road leading to the Senate building and classes. Some of them told NAN that the protest became necessary because the school authorities had not provided power and water at the campus for three months running. Mr Mike Ajeoja, a Theatre student, said those of them living in hostel at the permanent site had no power and water for the past three months. Ajeoja said they had drawn the attention of the school management to their plight, but nothing had been done to address the situation. “We are left with no choice then to come out and tell the world our problems. “We will not stop the protest unless our problems are solved,” he said.   The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has condemned the attack on the Department of the State Security Service, DSS in Abuja, saying the attack close to the Presidential Villa where President Jonathan and his family reside is a threat on the life of the President. ... The IYC said it would use every means within its disposal to resist any attempt on or threat to the life of President Goodluck Jonathan, warning the sponsors of Boko Haram that the latest attack is a'' joke taken too far''. ''The IYC regards the attack very close to the Presidential Villa, housing President Goodluck Jonathan and his family as a threat to the life of Mr. President. Lawmaker lights Orphanage

The member representing Urue offong/Oruko in the Akwa ibom state house of assembly Hon.(Barr) Bassey Etienam has donated a 15KVA  generator to The Way of the nation orphanage in Eket, Eket senatorial district. Speaking under the auspices of Chayil Developmement Foundation, the law maker said the vision was born out of Isa 58: 7-14 and a desire to build the people that will build the nation by sharing love. Responding to the gesture, the deputy director of the orphanage, Miss Helene Nta sincerely thanked the lawmaker and asked people to emulate CDF and build the country by primarily showing love to the less privileged and neglected. OUR CBN GOVERNOR DESIGNATE

Its no longer news   that Mr Lamido Sanusi has been suspended as the CBN Governor and that Mr Godwin Emefiele has been confirmed by the Nigerian Senate as the new CBN Governor pending the expiration of mr lamido’s tenure in June 2014. Though   senate’s spokesman Sanator   Enyinnaya Alabire said   he shall start performing his duties to avoid lapses in the system . Mr Emefiele who   hails from Agbor in Delta state is a banker of “international” repute having spent well over   twenty –six years in the sector of which   nineteen years has been with Zenith Bank plc. He has been a part of the management team of the bank since inception.He served as the executive director in charge of cooporate banking,treasury,financial   control and strategic planning.He later served as the managing director of the bank in 2001.He was then appointed as the Chief executive officer   and Group Managing director of the bank.in August 2010. Zenith Bank' s CEO Godwin Emefiele has been appointed as the new governor  of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).  The upper house on Wednesday, confirmed the appointment as norminated by President Goodluck Jonathan. Senate President, David Mark while speaking at plenary said “Emefiele will ensure the prerequisite responsibilities of the central bank governor without fear or favour”. Congratulations to him. Fire engulfs CBN headquarters in Lagos

The timely intervention of the Federal, State and private fire services on Tuesday evening saved the old CBN building at Tinubu Square  in  Lagos from being razed down. Mr Njoku Chika, Head of Fire Prevention, Federal Fire Service in Lagos, said that the fire started at about 5.00 pm from the first floor on  left wing of the five storey building. Chika said that the floor was housing the administrative department of the apex bank, stressing that the fire was put out by 5.10 pm. “Fire services from the Federal, State, UBA, Union Bank collaborated to put out the inferno. “The police and  civil defence corps  provided security to the areas.. No death was recorded,’’ Chika said. Mr Rasak Fadipe, Director, Lagos State Fire Service,  told NAN that one of his men was injured in the thick smoke, but   the man was resuscitated. UPDATE ON THE TRIAL OF THE UNIUYO 44 ADJOURNED TO MAY AS ONE GOES INSANE OUT OF TRAUMA by Inibehe Effiong Esq

The ongoing farcical and oppressive trial of the 44 innocent students of the University of Uyo who were arbitrarily arrested from their hotels and on the road on June 12, 2013 in responds to the students demonstration in the school continued today Wednesday 12th March, 2014 at High Court 7 Uyo, presided over by Hon. Justice Joy Unwana. 42 of the accused persons/students were present in court while 2 were absent.   The trial judge almost issued a Bench Warrant for the arrest of the absentees but rescinded her intention owing to the inability of the prosecution to show proof of service.  The University who is the Complainant was again represented in court by one Barr I O Eze on watching brief while the State was represented by a lawyer from the Ministry of Justice. The students were represented by their various lawyers numbering over 20 while those without lawyers were represented by one Barr. Theodore Williams pro bono. Sadly, it was brought to the not
