Last week Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State relieved some members of his cabinets(Some commissioners and board chairmen) of their duties. The Governor on Tuesday 29th April 2014 sent to the State House of assembly the names of people nominated to fill some vacant positions in his cabinet. According to our source, the governor stated that the nomination was in line with the provisions of sec 192 of the Nigerian Constitution. The nominees are: 1.Mr. Ante Okpo 2.Engr. Ignatius Edet. The nominees are however awaiting screening by the House which is scheduled to hold Tomorrow 30th April 2014. Congratulations in advance to the nominees.
The Akwa Ibom command of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says it has repatriated 612 irregular African nationals to their countries of origin in the last five months. The state Controller of Immigration Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba, said this in an interview in Uyo on Tuesday. Abdullahi explained that the presence of the illegal migrants was a threat to the internal security of the state in particular and Nigeria in general. He said that the affected migrants were mainly nationals from Niger, Cameroun, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Guinea, Gambia and Togo. “They were shown the way out for lack of valid travel documents and substantive means of livelihood,” Abdullahi said.
South Korean Prime Minister, Chung Hong-won, has resigned amid criticism of the government’s handling of the sinking of a passenger ferry. He said the “cries of the families of those missing still keep me up at night,” Mr Chung will stay in his post until the disaster is under control. The BBC reports that Sewol ferry with 476 people aboard – most of them students and teachers – sank off South Korea on April 16. Officials have confirmed 187 died, but scores are missing presumed drowned. Furious relatives have repeatedly criticised what they see as the slowness of the recovery operation. “The right thing for me to do is to take responsibility and resign as a person who is in charge of the cabinet,” Mr. Chung said in a brief televised statement. “On behalf of the government, I apologise for many problems from the prevention of the accident to the early handling of the disaster.” He added: “There have been so many varieties of irregularities that have continued in ...
